He Made It!

Elder Hoffman has officially made it to Nicaragua. We all got to talk to him briefly, through a poor phone connection, during his layover in Miami. He traveled with 7 other missionaries. Surprisingly, his first area is far south, nearly to Costa Rica and not very populated. It does have a live volcano though! His last email update he ended up chatting back and forth with Dad, so Dad has provided us with a synopsis of their conversation.

His companion has been out six months.  Spencer is his first training missionary companion.  His companion was born in Nicaragua but moved to Costa Rica when he was nine.  He seems to like him.  He didn’t describe his living conditions much.  He said he does have a shower and a kitchen but he doesn’t use the kitchen much.  He is sweating to death and trying to adjust to the heat.  Their area is large and they walk and ride the bus a lot.  His area is in the southern part of the country.  His first pday excursion with the whole zone going to a port city on the lake called San Jorge.  I didn’t get much about what they did or if he liked it.  They do have a ward in the town.  It is the Nandaime Ward. He didn’t comment on how church was.  He is still a bit lost following conversations but he is confident he will improve quickly.  He also didn’t comment much about his arrival but said the Mission President had a good sense of humor.

It's not much, but he is alive. :)
